π΄ EOTK Insider Opinion: Transfer windows can be fun but the 'top red/bottom red' accusations are nonsense π«
Debate should be encouraged but it has to be remembered that we're all ultimately Liverpool fans
Transfer windows can be a lot of fun.
Hundreds upon hundreds of names circulating throughout the rumour mill and fans eagerly watching on in the summer debating which next superstar (ready-made or up and coming) their club will sign.
Thereβs also, of course, a darker side to it all, visible for all to see on social media.
Similar to the #FSGOUT/#FSGIN debate - and often invoking related arguments - the transfer window can be a source for polarised, and sometimes nasty, debates.
In line with this, @rossic89βs tweet was actually the inspiration behind this piece.

The purpose of this article isnβt to criticise one particular point of view. If anything, we at EOTK Insider encourage fans to share their opinions with us and stir up debate in the comments.
Though selfishly we hope to see our own viewpoints resonate with some fans, itβs interesting to be able to have rational debates with fellow fans over the workings of the club, regardless of how differing or similar certain opinions are.
At risk of inviting the wrath of the anti-FSG brigade, we can perfectly understand why our American owners have earned some criticism. Such negative reactions are fair - to an extent.
Likewise, we can understand the other side of the coin and look at how John W. Henry and co. have helped transform a sleeping giant into a genuine, competitive European heavyweight.
A great deal of that is down to the genius of Jurgen Klopp and the important officials behind the scenes like Michael Edwards and his recruitment team.
But weβre getting ahead of ourselves here.
At what point did it get acceptable to hand out bizarre monikers like βtop Redsβ or βbottom Redsβ?
Regardless of where we stand, weβre ultimately all Liverpool fans at the end of the day, are we not?
As we have written about here on EOTK Insider plenty of times before, we can understand the frustration behind the lack of additional signings beyond Ibrahima Konate - particularly following the loss of Georginio Wijnaldum on a free.
Ideally, weβd like to see a new forward on top of that.
However, we can likewise see where fans - and Jurgen Klopp - are coming from when pointing to the numbers and quality available for selection. You also have to consider whether a desired target is genuinely available.
Weβre personally cautious when it comes to trusting the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to last an entire campaign (as much as we think both are genuinely gifted footballers).
BUT.
If the gamble pays off, weβll all ultimately be applauding Kloppβs faith in his squad.
We admire it, even if weβre not totally on board with it.
In that sense, itβs absolutely feasible for fans to discuss differing viewpoints rationally without such discussions descending into childish tantrums and accusations over the quality of oneβs support for the club.
