Adama Traore has got some Liverpool fans talking on Reddit - could he be the solution up top? 🐺
The short answer is: maybe; the slightly longer answer is: maybe not.
Amidst concerns over how on earth we’re ever going to replace a player like Gini Wijnaldum, it remains unclear as to what direction exactly we’ll take in addressing the forward line.
With Harvey Elliott set to get his chance to shine in pre-season and Liverpool having bought well last summer with Diogo Jota, we’re missing that final piece of the puzzle - the final rotational option for our front-three.
Similar to our midfield conundrum, there’s an opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to instruct his recruitment team to go after the kind of player that will change the dynamic of our frontline.
We’ve seen hints of such a possibility in the links with taller hitmen in Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Isak (both 6’3”).
Then again, other reports have signalled much of the same, with Kingsley Coman and Donyell Malen (both 5’10”) also linked.
Standing at 5’10” - albeit with no recent speculation linking him with an Anfield switch - Wolves’ Adama Traore would perfectly fit in the latter camp.
Interestingly, the former La Masia graduate’s name has popped up on social media - specifically Reddit - inspiring an ongoing debate between Liverpool fans as to his suitability for a potential switch to Merseyside.
Supporters are somewhat divided over the issue, understandably so given that the winger has registered only seven league goals across his last three seasons for the West Midlands outfit.
With Mohamed Salah forced to take up responsibility once again as Liverpool’s main goal threat last term, as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino floundered, it has been made abundantly clear that the club’s next new forward must be a potent goalscorer.
As has been raised by a number of fans, however, could this not be a trait honed in the 25-year-old?
Looking back to the example of a former Wolves star in Diogo Jota, who adjusted brilliantly to life at Liverpool prior to his injury, it’s clear that the Portugal international’s output rose considerably courtesy of Klopp’s coaching, not to mention the presence of more talented teammates.
That having been said, the 24-year-old’s goal threat was somewhat more considerable than his old teammate’s at the Molineux-based club, registering 16 league goals in the two seasons prior to his switch to Merseyside.
Coaching matters, though there has to be a natural eye for goal to work with in the first place and Traore strikes us at EOTK Insider as more of a creator than a lethal finisher.
That’s not forgetting either the player’s position, with the Spaniard favouring Salah’s right-wing spot.
Also, with Firmino’s importance to the squad having been called into question, it’s worth considering whether another wide forward is required ahead of an out-and-out No.9.
Part of the brilliance of Klopp’s front-three is the level of interchangeability, how their movement promotes confusion in opposition backlines, with the Brazilian the focal point, the diversion master, the creator of space in Liverpool’s devastating attack.
If the Firmino is a hexagonal peg, Traore should be considered a square peg and, consequently, an inappropriate option to directly challenge the former Hoffenheim star.
As a backup option alone, however, in the general sense of the forward line rather than for a specific cog in the machine, the ex-Middlesbrough star would seem an interesting tool for Klopp to utilise in a sort of bluntly appealing way.
Though, we’re far from sure that he carries the required goal threat to be considered a genuine contender for a potential transfer.
