Bayern Munich's asking price for Liverpool-linked Kingsley Coman REVEALED 💰
It's not unreasonable, though it could mean we'd be forced to make a pretty huge sacrifice
Liverpool are in need of a quality forward, a requirement Jurgen Klopp is reportedly hoping to fulfill.
As great a signing as Kingsley Coman could be for the club, however, the stars seem unlikely to align for the Reds on this potential target.
It’s not an assumption necessarily based on Bayern Munich’s apparent calmness in the face of Liverpool’s interest, but largely to do with the reality of the Premier League outfit’s finances.
£60m - that’s the target we’ve been led to believe the Merseysiders are hoping to amass in player sales.
According to Florian Plettenberg, who revealed the club’s interest in the Frenchman today for Sport1, the Bavarians’ heads would be turned at €50m “or more”, which equates to £42m.
It’s not an entirely unreasonable asking price for a player regarded to be world-class, with two years remaining on his contract and his best years of football ahead of him.
On paper, it’s the kind of signing we should be interested in.
Gone are the days of Liverpool looking on the outside in, jealously spying on our free-spending neighbours whilst we set our recruitment team the unenviable task of scouring the globe for the potential world-beaters that slip through the cracks.
Well… not necessarily completely gone, though it is admittedly difficult to escape the reality of the financial ramifications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, even for a side in as wealth-abundant a league as the English top-flight.
Assuming the worst-case scenario - that we’ve spent our budget on Ibrahima Konate - and that the £60m figure touted represents our potential budget (sales permitting) for further signings, we would be left with £18m to splash on a Georginio Wijnaldum replacement.
This does additionally assume that we aren’t as dismissive of the importance of finding someone to fill in the ex-No.5’s shoes as some reports would suggest.
We at EOTK Insider would like to think that another dip (preferably two!) into the transfer market won’t be entirely reliant on us reaching the reported target for player sales.
If it is indeed the case, however, we could very well struggle to find a suitable replacement for Wijnaldum with only £18m to play with, especially if the Bundesliga giants aren’t prepared to bite until Liverpool issue an offer in excess of £42m.
