Edition #4: Liverpool's absurd transfer offer to defender rejected... and more!
EOTK Insider: ad-free weekly roundup, straight to your inbox 🔴
It’s been a while since Liverpool played football, hasn’t it?
Last week’s newsletter focussed on the upcoming tie with Manchester United, which never happened - due to the ‘peaceful protest’ that saw police officers injured and the game somehow now rescheduled rather than awarded a Liverpool win. (But more of that in a minute…)
This Saturday, it’s Southampton at home. We’re pretty much playing now for Mo Salah’s third Golden Boot, so let’s hope he plunders a hat-trick and leaves Harry Kane in his goalscoring wake.
Big news still churns, though - and here’s some of the best LFC tidbits from Inside Anfield…
Liverpool made David Alaba the BIGGEST offer of any European club… and he still turned us down!
So, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, we were so desperate for Bayern’s Alaba, the deal offered to him was bigger than Real Madrid’s. If this is the case, and he doesn’t get much wrong, we should actually be kinda excited… As it suggests the board might back Jurgen this summer.
Gini Wijnaldum is leaving - his agent has confirmed it - and he fancies a Bayern Munich switch
Goodbye, Gini - it’s been a great five years. No hard feelings from our side. You were a big part of the best Liverpool team we've ever seen!
EOTK Insider can confirm that Yves Bissouma and Florian Neuhaus are on the radar as potential replacements. Both will cost around £40m and Michael Edwards is in conversation with the agents of BOTH.
The nonsense ‘5th place gets you Champions League’ rumours…
Arsenal got knocked out of the Europa League, which means fourth place will now get us CL next term… Before their exit though, if Chelsea had won the CL and Arsenal the EL, 4th place would’ve only got us Europa… Can you imagine?!
There’s a headline for ya! But it came out of the horse’s mouth.... The greatest night in Liverpool’s history was the worst for the Ukrainian forward. What an honest story.
And finally…
Remember the fallout from ONE Liverpool fan throwing a bottle of Kopparberg at City’s bus? Scousers were demonised in the media. But United’s ‘peaceful protest’ included thousands chanting about Scousers and breaking into the stadium. Why is it being rescheduled? That’s not what the rules say. We admire the act of protest - we really do - but what do ‘Scouse B*stards’ have to do with the Glazers… Are they not a little confused?
