Liverpool’s FA Cup journey for 2024 will begin in north London on Sunday, and they also hope it’ll end in north London - except in a different part of the city and not for another four months.

If the Reds are to make it to Wembley on 25 May, the first step on that route will have seen them eliminate the competition’s most successful club in Arsenal, whose triumph in the tournament four years ago was a record-extending 14th.

It was only a fortnight ago that Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta last locked horns in a 1-1 Premier League draw at Anfield, while remarkably this is the fourth season out of five in which the teams will have faced each other in a domestic cup competition.

Their fortunes since that pre-Christmas clash have been in stark contrast, with two wins for Liverpool seeing them replace the Gunners as top-flight leaders, taking full advantage of the north Londoners losing twice to fellow capital clubs.

One of these big names will definitely fall in the FA Cup third round, even if it isn’t necessarily this weekend, should the result from 23 December be repeated and a replay is duly required.

Ahead of the showdown at the Emirates Stadium, let’s take a look at the form guide for both teams, as well as their head-to-head FA Cup record, and contextualise just how frequently Klopp and Arteta have pitted their wits against one another outside of the Premier League.
