The timing could hardly have been better for Liverpool to have been given the green light by the city council to open the expanded Anfield Road Stand to ensure a capacity of 57,000 for this weekend’s fixture.

This iconic stadium is set to welcome its largest attendance in 46 years for the visit of the Reds’ fiercest rivals Manchester United, who arrive on Merseyside off the back of a humiliating exit from European competition.

The Red Devils have already been beaten 12 times in all competitions this season, with three of those coming since the start of this month.

By contrast, Jurgen Klopp’s side have tasted defeat only three times in the entire campaign thus far, with one of those an inconsequential 2-1 loss to Union Saint-Gilloise last Thursday, having already ensured top spot in their Europa League group.

Liverpool went into this weekend’s Premier League schedule top of the table, although they could be bumped down to second by the time they kick off at Anfield, should Arsenal beat Brighton earlier on Sunday.

Whatever happens at the Emirates Stadium, the Reds won’t need any further incentive to get one over on arch-rivals United and compound the mood of misery in Manchester.

Ahead of the Merseyside showdown, let’s take a look at the form guide for both teams, as well as their head-to-head Premier League record, and delve deeper into the 200 goals that Mo Salah has now scored for the Reds.
