Liverpool fans divided on what to do with Divock Origi 🤷♂️
Both the Belgian and Xherdan Shaqiri are deemed likely to leave Liverpool this summer
Liverpool have reportedly turned down a £10m bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for the services of out-of-favour attacker Divock Origi, according to Ekrem Konur.
The former Lille man is considered likely to face the transfer chop this summer, with the Reds looking to bolster their reportedly fragile transfer kitty.
Though Jurgen Klopp is said not to be pushing for the player’s sale, it has been claimed that the German will not stand in the striker’s way should an exit be on the 26-year-old’s mind.
Interestingly, fans seemed somewhat divided when it comes to handling the No.27’s potential departure.
The aforementioned report from the journalist in question has been disputed, however, by a reliable outlet in The Athletic, with Wolves reporter Tim Spiers noting that the Belgian international is not currently on the club’s wishlist.
“As it stands it’s not thought that Liverpool striker Divock Origi is of interest this time, despite Wolves showing interest in the player on numerous occasions in the past,” the journalist wrote for the publication. “With a low net spend this summer, Wolves are in a position where they need to sell before they can buy.”
With the West Midlands outfit operating under a similar set of constraints to that of Liverpool, it would seem unwise at this point in time to hold out on an offer from Bruno Lage’s men.
Under somewhat normal circumstances - COVID-19 aside - one might expect Michael Edwards and co. to find the task of negotiating a bumper fee for Origi a simplistic one, banking on the player’s potential value with him only being 26 years of age.
As things stand, however, a combination of unsavoury factors, from the ongoing financial ramifications of the pandemic to the centre-forward’s contract (set to expire next summer), have almost forced Liverpool’s negotiators up against a wall when it comes to arranging an asking price.
Of course, any interested party will be inclined to argue that £10m for a striker who registered only a single goal across all competitions last term is a pretty fair deal.
On our side, however, we’d be inclined to point out that this is a Champions League-winner, for one, being offered out - not forgetting that Origi played an instrumental role in our Champions League success of 2018/19, scoring in the semi-finals and final.
In real terms, £20m arguably fits the bill, but in the context of the current global circumstances, £15m may be a more palatable sum for the recruitment team to sell to prospective buyers.
