Happy Friday, Reds!
They say when one door closes a window opens… which is an appropriate analogy for this week’s newsletter in light of the recent transfer speculation we’ve all been treated to.
Updates on a midfield replacement for our former Mr. Reliable, Georginio Wijnaldum, have slightly cooled, with links to the likes of Florian Neuhaus and Christoph Baumgartner appearing to have largely disappeared into thin air.
The whispers around Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez - not to mention Lille’s Renato Sanches - are still hanging about, though, so this may be worth potentially keeping an eye out for…
But anyway, never mind that! Keeping in line with our aforementioned analogy, we’ve got not one but TWO transfer exclusives for you to set your teeth into.
They both relate to PSV’s Donyell Malen and the forward line, which, as has been previously acknowledged, is arguably in need of reinforcement.
We can see Harvey Elliott (who has just signed a five-year-long contract with us - congrats!) and Diogo Jota being fantastic options to rotate with our prestigious front-three, but there’s a gap there to be filled.
Xherdan Shaqiri may have earned himself a lifeline with his performances for Switzerland during the European Championship, but realistically we can’t see the club holding onto both the Power Cube and out-of-favour frontman Divock Origi next term.
Excusing the reported need to conduct player sales (in line with The Athletic’s claim of there being a £60m target to reach) in order to invest in further signings beyond Ibrahima Konate, neither of the pair exactly shone last season.
With Mohamed Salah’s efforts largely keeping us afloat, it really highlighted the need for more effective, alternative options on the bench.
While it’s not exactly the end of the world if we call it quits after Konate, you’d have to think not pursuing the aforementioned additions would be a BOLD move on our part after a season in which injuries played a starring role.
As we’ve noted before, we’d expect a great deal of transfers to take place beyond this summer’s international tournaments, so it’ll be very much worth keeping your eyes peeled beyond the two finals set to go ahead this weekend.
While we’re back on the topic of the Euros, we’d also like to take a quick moment to congratulate the skipper, Jordan Henderson, on reaching the final with Gareth Southgate’s England outfit.
And without further ado… let’s get right into the thick of the week’s top stories.

A lot’s gone on this week, hasn’t it? EOTK Insider source reveals how Liverpool’s involvement could change the balance of things regarding Dortmund-linked Eredivisie star
We hope you’re still in the mood for exclusives! We’ve been given an update on who’s leading the race for a highly rated Dutch international the club has been keeping an eye on. The forward has an eye for goal, similar characteristics to Anfield favorite Roberto Firmino and could be available for a bargain fee - what’s not to like?
Editor’s Column: Barca are a financial mess… how can we capitalise on that?
If reports around Barcelona’s financial struggles are even vaguely accurate, the Catalan giants are in BIG trouble. The club apparently can’t register their four new signings, nor talisman Lionel Messi (yes, you hear that right), until they’ve managed to raise €200m, according to The Athletic. It means Liverpool could potentially capitalise on their misfortune, with there being a number of interesting talents on offer…
EOTK Insider Opinion: FSG have a lot to make up for… but we’d be daft to get rid of them
Our marmite owners have done a lot of dodgy things to incite the ire of fans, however, they’ve also accomplished a lot of good, from investment in the stadium to the appointment of Jurgen Klopp. One journalist had his say on the difficulty of the German’s job under Fenway Sports Group, which raises the question: are our owners still fit for purpose? Are there better alternatives out there?
And last but not least…
Some have claimed that a Manchester United star should be considered the best fullback in the world after his Euros performances… forgetting about Andy Robertson, are we?
England have surprised many with their run to the final of the European Championship; even more surprising are the claims coming out of the Manchester United camp regarding one Luke Shaw. Bias aside, the former Southampton left-back has really turned a corner with his career, but it sounds like some have got a bit carried away with it all!
