The Champions League… is…. BACK! And back with a rather loud bang at that judging by Liverpool’s mouthwatering clash with AC Milan yesterday evening, with the Reds running out 3-2 winners.
With Porto and Atletico Madrid playing out a goalless stalemate, it puts Jurgen Klopp’s men in a good starting position in Group B of the Champions League ahead of what will undoubtedly be difficult meetings with Diego Simeone’s Los Colchoneros.
Taking 13 (if you include the European clash) points from our opening five games, we look value for money in the early stages of the season.
As they say, however, it’s early doors, and we’ll need to keep up the level of performances delivered thus far - not to mention rely on consistent contributions from our backup options - to go the distance.
As such, we’ll need to show that we’re capable of going from beating European royalty to putting away sides like Crystal Palace in banana peel-style fixtures on a regular basis.
Divock Origi has surprised many fans with his contributions on the pitch against Stefano Pioli’s plucky Rossoneri, but we’ll likewise need to see fellow out-of-favour stars of the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino step up when the need arises.
If we can succeed in that respect, it may very well change minds within and beyond the fanbase regarding the strength of Liverpool’s depth; an area inviting heavy criticism from supporters and pundits alike prior to the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
It’s not been all rosy this week, however, with the use of vile chants a theme that has persisted in the English top-flight, with a small section of Leeds United fans caught engaging in less than savoury behaviour during the side’s weekend tie with us.
With such issues increasingly coming to the fore, we can only hope that the sport - and those enjoying it, in particular - can undergo a moment of introspection to think about how their actions are impinging upon their fellow supporters’ enjoyment of the game.

#Ep12 of The Red Nets Podcast: Klopp’s bold selection call, the danger posed by Crystal Palace… AND MORE!
The EOTK Insider trio are back at it again with a chat about Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over AC Milan in the Champions League. One man surprised and delighted us all with his performance in the Reds’ opening group stage win, potentially opening the door for a more exciting season for the out-of-favour star than many had initially envisaged.
Hillsborough chants at Elland Road were disgraceful and are nothing short of abusive
One of our very own, Ste Carson, offered his thoughts on the vile chanting to have taken place during Liverpool’s meeting with Leeds United at the weekend. Though the majority of the home fans were supportive of Harvey Elliott following the midfielder’s severe injury, we at EOTK Insider were left appalled by the actions of a minority.
EOTK Insider: Arguing the case for Liverpool's new yellow & red McDonald's kit
A kit release can be a wonderful source of debate, and Nike’s latest batch of jerseys has certainly invited commentary from the fanbase, with the Reds’ third shirt dividing Liverpool supporters. EOTK Insider writer, Ste Carson, had his say on a design he says has ‘enthused’ him.
And last but not least…
EOTK Insider Opinion: Takumi Minamino could be one of Liverpool's most important players this season
In a long season, Liverpool will need some big performances from stars beyond the starting-XI. We are, of course, talking about the club’s fringe options - the likes of Divock Origi, James Milner and… Takumi Minamino. The Japanese international has shown flashes of brilliance but could this season be the one for the former RB Salzburg man?
