There was an edge of disappointment in the air after the transfer window finally drew to a close at 11pm this Tuesday.
Dozens upon dozens of names linked with Liverpool had been churned out at a rate of knots in news reports, yet the club found itself on the other side of the summer window with only Ibrahima Konate having switched shirts for the famous red.
In doing so, Jurgen Klopp’s outfit plugged a serious gap in the backline that had troubled them last season. However, fresh concerns have since arisen, with the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum exposing Liverpool’s fragility in midfield, and pundits pointing to the drop in quality of firepower up top beyond Diogo Jota and the typical starting front-three.
To suggest that the club has enjoyed a successful window would be practically discrediting the importance of our former No.5 within Klopp’s setup.
Likewise, further up the pitch, backup options Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino are from appetising alternatives to the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah - the pair of whom will be missing from domestic fixtures due to national side commitments during the African Cup of Nations.
That being said, there’s arguably no need for the level of sheer panic some seem to favour on social media regarding our limited transfer activity.
We can all agree that we’re a little light in two positions (at least). But this is still Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool we’re talking about; a side that has since welcomed back world-class centre-half Virgil van Dijk, and generally boasts an array of quality starting options with some great backup dotted about the squad.
It’s not quite Manchester City’s level of depth, but there’s more about the club than some are prepared to give it credit for.
Make no mistake, qualifying in third last term without Van Dijk and a number of key members of the starting-XI for considerable portions of the season was miraculous. As such, having these kinds of players available once more should offer a ray of hope as far as our chances of major honours this year are concerned.
While it may have been a quiet window this summer, this is a Liverpool side that has added Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota (the pair last summer, albeit) and Konate to a recent Premier League and Champions League-winning squad
All that’s left to do on our end, now the window has closed, is to back the side with the unmatched level of support the fanbase is famous for.
It’ll be a tough campaign, but there’s a lot of reasons to be hopeful.

EOTK Insider Opinion: Why Liverpool's quiet summer isn't a disaster
Our very own Ste Carson dissects the summer transfer window and Liverpool’s limited activity compared to some of our big-spending rivals. While we aren’t in a position to throw vast sums of cash about, it’s clear that the club has missed some opportunities to strengthen and left itself somewhat short for the season. That being said, it’s not all doom and gloom!

EOTK Insider Opinion: Divisions emerging in the Liverpool fanbase have to end
As if divisions between the #FSGOUT and #FSGIN Twitter crew weren’t frustrating enough to contend with, social media has uncovered a new form of designation splitting the fanbase in two. While we’ll always welcome a difference of opinion here at EOTK Insider, the polarisation of the fanbase is arguably counterproductive.
To the fans singing homophobic chants: it opposes everything Liverpool stands for
After Jurgen Klopp, the LGTBQ+ community and the club pleaded with fans to drop homophobic chanting, we’ve been left disappointed once more by the behaviour of a small section of supporters in our weekend clash with Chelsea. Regardless of the rationalisations behind the continued use of such chants, we need to take a collective stand against such harmful behaviour.
And last but not least…
Liverpool could be due for a HUGE boost this season following Van Dijk’s latest comments
When criticisms arise with regard to Liverpool’s limited transfer activity, it seems some are overlooking the value attached to our returning world-class stars. As a team that is largely unchanged from that which brought home our first title in three decades, there has to be some level of hope around what Jurgen Klopp’s men are capable of achieving this term.
